Drivers are better off refueling in good time when they run out of fuel.
In the worst case, there is a risk of heavy fines.
Kassel - There are motorists who generally never or only rarely drive on reserve - the tank must always be at least half full.
If the pointer slips underneath, it goes straight to the next gas station.
But there are also some who only refuel when the display is really at the limit and the car can only manage a few kilometers.
A risk that can quickly lead to stressful situations - in the worst case, there is even a risk of a fine.
There are many reasons why drivers drive on reserve.
Either you have forgotten your wallet, the gasoline prices are just too high or you simply overlook the fuel gauge or misjudge the car.
The journey continues - sometimes it goes well and you arrive at your destination, but sometimes the car breaks down.
Drive a car on reserve: the car remains lying on the autobahn with an empty tank - a fine is imminent
Especially on long journeys on the autobahn, it can quickly lead to an unforeseen traffic jam.
Then the driver gets stuck and ends up lying there.
This is not only uncomfortable, stressful and bad for the car, it can also result in a fine.
Vacationers should therefore refuel in good time, advises the ADAC in a dpa report.
“Ideally when the tank is around a quarter full.” Because when driving on reserve, things can quickly get tight.
"The filling station network in Germany is very well developed, so with a little common sense and timely refueling there shouldn't be any problems", according to the ADAC.

Anyone who breaks down on the motorway with an empty tank basically risks a fine in the form of a fine.
Because this is not a mishap.
The driver is obliged to provide enough fuel.
The amount of the penalty can vary.
In the 2021 catalog of fines *, a fine of 30 euros (35 euros with a disability) is specified for “illegal stopping on the motor vehicle or motorway”.
According to the catalog of fines, 70 euros are due for “illegal parking on the motor vehicle or motorway”.
If this leads to an accident, joint liability can result and even more severe penalties.
Do not drive a car with an empty tank: the car stays on the road - this must be taken into account
In order to avoid accidents, drivers who have broken down with their car should take all precautionary measures.
So first maneuver the car into the right lane and from there onto the hard shoulder.
In addition, switch on the hazard warning lights, set up a warning triangle and put on a safety vest.
Then breakdown assistance will usually help.
But why not just pack a full reserve canister in the trunk?
This ensures that there is enough fuel in an emergency.
A petrol can is therefore not a good idea because it poses a potential fire hazard in the event of an accident.
In addition, the ADAC points out that unhealthy vapors can get into the interior of the car through the canister.
This can happen with a plastic canister, for example.
There are other mistakes that can cost drivers a lot of money.
If there is snow and ice on the car roof, there is also a risk of fines.
