The 32nd final of the French Cup between Paris Fc and Lyon was definitively interrupted after the incidents that occurred in the stands, when the two teams were at 1-1.

In France this is the umpteenth match interrupted due to the scuffles that broke out between fans.

The speaker of the Parisian stadium of Charléty, accompanied by the president of Paris FC, Pierre Ferracci, announced at around 10.50 pm "that, in agreement with the authorities, the match would no longer be resumed".

A few minutes after Lyon's equalizer, signed by Moussa Dembélé (44 'pt), during the interval, smoke bombs were launched in the area where the Lyon supporters were. The smoke bombs were then collected by the fans from the adjacent grandstand, then thrown in various points of the stadium, before going out. Two explosions of homemade bombs were also heard. Clashes broke out, which dragged on to the area occupied by the Lyon fans and into the nearby grandstand, leading to the deployment of the police who rushed to help the stewards. The spectators, from the grandstand near the incidents, then descended onto the lawn to leave. The referee and the players, who were ready to kick off the second half, returned to the locker room from where they never left.

Tonight's incidents are the latest in a long series of pairs in French stadiums since the start of the competitive season. They arrive three weeks after those of Lyon-Marseille: even that time the match was interrupted after a plastic water bottle was thrown at the playmaker Dimitri Payet. The incidents occurred in the aftermath of an inter-ministerial meeting on violence in stadiums, which was attended by professional football leaders. The match led to several reforms and food for thought: a Ligue 1 or Ligue 2 match is "permanently stopped" if a player or referee is attacked; plastic bottles are forbidden inside the stadiums, where mobile protection nets must be installed.
