Christmas Eve is considered to be the least popular television day of the year.
And yet there are some rituals: Whether "Sissi", "Kevin at home alone" or the "Feuerzangenbowle" - all of these classics are an indispensable part of the TV program on December 24th.
A film that has achieved cult status over almost all generations in the past is "Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella".
Even a few months after the death of Libuše Šafránková - the actress played the role of Cinderella - the cult around the film lives on.
On German television, the fairy tale will be shown a total of twelve times on eight different channels from December 19 to January 6.
And not only that: the Christmas classic can also be seen with sign language.
This means that the film is one of more than 50 fairy tales to be equipped with DGS, according to the MDR's announcement.
In the Czech Republic, where the story of Cinderella was partially filmed more than 40 years ago, the film is also very popular.
Safránková, who as a Cinderella has to deal with her sadistic stepmother, suddenly became famous.
At the end of the film, the self-confident young woman conquers the prince's heart - three magical hazelnuts help her with this.
"Three hazelnuts for Cinderella" is a retelling of the Grimm Brothers' Cinderella fairy tale and was first shown in cinemas in 1973, only two years later the film was shown in West Germany.
Since then it has been part of the Christmas program as well as "Dinner for One" of the New Year's Eve program.
