EU: Von der Leyen, with Covid and Recovery at the start of the new phase

(ANSA) - MILAN, DEC 19 - "In the last two years Europe has taken a new step forward, developing its own response to the pandemic. For the first time in our history we have joined forces to produce and purchase vaccines for all Europeans. It is thanks to this choice that today we have all the necessary doses to tackle the fourth wave of the pandemic. And for the first time in history we have created a recovery plan, funded by the European Union, to help each Member State recover from the crisis and reshape its own economy. We have called it NextGenerationEU. With these two decisions we have already entered a new phase in the history of the Union ". This was stated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen,in the course of his opening on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Catholic University of Milan which inaugurates the academic year 2021-2022.
