An exciting and especially very surprising birth took place this week at a general clinic in Modi'in Illit.

A woman in the 39th week of her pregnancy arrived at the Clalit Health Fund's Women's Health Center in Modi'in Illit on Sunday due to pressure she experienced and was referred to the clinic's director, Dr. Israel Yules. Protrudes from the birth canal.

In a normal position, prior to birth, fetuses rotate so that their head is facing downwards and towards the pelvic opening and it is the one that comes out first to the birth canal.

When the baby is in a breech position - his head is up and his lower body comes out first into the birth canal.

Breech birth entails more risks for the fetus and the mother, so usually when the fetus in this presentation tries to perform its reversal even before birth and if this is not successful the mother will usually be referred for birth by caesarean section.

However, there are some hospitals that allow vaginal delivery in breech presentation, when there is an experienced doctor who can accompany it.

In the case of the midwife in Modi'in Illit, the clinic staff discovered that there was no time at all to think of alternatives, because the surprising birth progressed at a very fast pace. However, fortunately for the midwife, Dr. Yules, coordinator of gynecology in the Central District of Clalit, is a skilled physician with over 30 years of experience in the field of midwifery. "Immediately by ambulance, I emphasized that it was necessary to arrive at the emergency room, and at the same time we started giving an infusion until the ambulance arrived."

But the birth continued to progress at a very fast pace and there was no time to keep waiting for the ambulance. "While waiting for the ambulance, the water went down and a few minutes later we realized that the birth was progressing. On further examination it was found that the mother was fully open with the fetal leg in the vagina. We realized we could not wait and began the birth process. Explained Dr. Yules.

"I realized it was impossible to wait and I immediately started the birth process."
