Curry recall: The company Yalcinkaya Gewürzhandel GmbH is recalling "Indian curry" because the product is contaminated with the highly toxic ethylene oxide.
Munich / Bensheim - Urgent warning of curry spices from Yalcinkaya Gewürzhandel GmbH.
The spice merchant is recalling curry in various sizes.
The reason for the product recall: Ethylene oxide was found in the products.
This plant protection product is banned in Europe because it is very dangerous to health.
Now it has got into food after all.
Curry recall: what is ethylene oxide and why is it so dangerous?
Ethylene oxide is a pesticide and fumigant that is used to combat bacteria and fungi.
According to the
consumer advice center in North Rhine-Westphalia,
it can
change the genetic make-up and cause cancer.
It is strictly forbidden in food production in Europe.
Nevertheless, food is repeatedly contaminated with the highly toxic ethylene oxide.
The reason for the product recall could therefore be that ethylene oxide is used in Asian countries for food production - and products for the European market could also be contaminated with it.
On the other hand, the poison can get into the products if they are transported in containers disinfected with ethylene oxide.
