At Lake Galenbeck, two women from Greifswald sank almost waist-deep into the moor.

The walkers wanted to watch wild birds late on Sunday afternoon and got into a swamp, the police said.

The women could no longer free themselves and called for help on their cell phones.

Fortunately, the 31-year-old and the 28-year-old had a reception there and, according to the rescuers, were almost hip-deep.

The police were able to find the women, but first had to alert a fisherman with a rubber dinghy and then the fire department.

After about two and a half hours - at temperatures around zero degrees - the women could be taken out.

They were slightly hypothermic, were treated on an outpatient basis by paramedics and were then picked up by friends by car.

A total of 48 firefighters from Torgelow, Ferdinandshof and Wilhelmsburg were on duty.

Because of the many rescue workers, a road between Fleethof and Heinrichswalde had to be completely closed for about two hours.
