Covid-19 in France: nearly 73,000 new infections, 20% of Omicron cases among all infections

The situation is particularly critical in hospitals where 16,076 Covid-19 patients are currently hospitalized.


"The Omicron variant reshuffles the cards," Gabriel Attal acknowledged on France 2 on Tuesday. "This variant is clearly more contagious: it is estimated that it develops 60% more quickly in the body than the previous variants", specified the government spokesperson.

While we were heading towards the peak of the fifth wave, contaminations continue to increase in France.

According to the latest report from Public Health France, 72,832 new cases have been recorded in the territory in the past 24 hours.

As a reminder, there were 15,075 new contaminations on Monday (the new cases on Monday corresponding to the tests carried out on Sunday) and 63,405 last week.

The government spokesperson further indicated that 20% of Covid cases in France involve the Omicron variant.

1,661 new admissions to the hospital

“We must do everything to protect our hospital. It requires collective responsibility. Be careful and do your vaccination booster, ”added Gabriel Attal. The situation is indeed critical in health establishments where 16,076 patients with Covid-19 are currently hospitalized, against 15,918 on Monday and 14,819 a week ago. There are also 1,661 new admissions in 24 hours, against 1,662 last week.

Of all these patients, 3,096 occupy critical care units, reserved for the most severe cases.

They were 3,025 Monday and 2,792 a week earlier.

In the last 24 hours alone, 357 patients have entered it.

Public Health France also has 212 deaths linked to Covid-19 which have occurred in hospital in the past 24 hours, against 158 ​​last Tuesday.

Bringing to 121,832 the number of

people who have died of Covid-19 in France since the start of the pandemic.

Today we will reach 20 million recalls.

"Today we will reach 20 million recalls", welcomed the Minister of Health Olivier Véran on Tuesday.

With 750,300 booster injections carried out in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of French people who have now received a booster dose to 20,556,498.

In addition, since the start of the vaccination campaign in France, 52,592,757 people have received at least one injection (i.e. 78% of the total population) and 51,515,312 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (i.e. 76.4% of the total population).
