At the height of this new movement, some 2,500 tonnes of waste had accumulated near dumpsters in the Marseille city, leading the police headquarters, at the request of the metropolis, to requisition agents.

Collecting the remaining garbage is expected to take several days, leaving France's second largest city with its litter piles on Christmas Eve.
