A 70-year-old man drove past a police car in Gelsenkirchen with his self-made e-bike - and was taken out of traffic for it.

The cyclist had passed an emergency vehicle last Thursday "at high speed and without pedaling," the police said.

The officers then stopped the vehicle.

During the inspection it was noticed that the man had independently made technical changes to the bike.

The drive motor alone enabled the bike to reach a speed of 50 km / h.

Wheel secured

The police initiated proceedings against the man for violating the compulsory insurance law.

In addition, charges were made on suspicion of driving without a license.

The 70-year-old was not allowed to continue, the police secured the bike.
