In South Africa, the Corona variant Omikron has long been predominant. Nevertheless, RTL does not want to forego broadcasting the jungle camp.

Omikron worries worldwide, but the private broadcaster RTL wants to stick to its plans: The jungle camp is scheduled to start on January 21 in South Africa. According to current planning, the 15th season of ›I am a star - get me out of here!‹ With new candidates, new exams and lots of fun is to be produced near the Kruger National Park - of course, while observing the current corona developments " , announced RTL. The candidates will again be accompanied by the moderator duo Sonja Zietlow and Daniel Hartwich. Who will be king or queen of the South Africa premiere will be decided on February 5th.

The Australian jungle camp counterpart "I'm a Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here!" Has been taking place in South Africa since 2015.

Since RTL cannot currently produce in the Australian jungle, the broadcaster uses the Australians' South Africa camp.

There twelve candidates go on a star hunt.

Designer Harald Glööckler, singer Lucas Cordalis and reality TV candidate Filip Pavlovic have already been named.

Omikron continues to expand in the US and Europe

The shooting takes place in the spectacular savannah landscape near the Blyde River Canyon.

There are many beautiful and dangerous animals and landscapes for tests of courage and disgust, but no jungle.

However, because of the smaller time difference to Germany - just one hour - South Africa offers the makers dramaturgical advantages.

Almost four weeks after its discovery in South Africa, the Omikron variant is increasingly spreading to other continents.

In the United States, almost three quarters (73.2 percent) of the cases registered last week were due to Omikron, the CDC said.

In the previous week, only 12.6 percent of the cases were due to Omikron.

Similar dramatic developments can be seen in some European countries.

In Germany, individual federal states are taking initial measures.

Hamburg is already introducing contact restrictions on Christmas Eve (read more here).
