The most anticipated novel of the new school year was available on the Internet this Tuesday evening when it was not released until January 7. Explanations.

While the release of Michel Houellebecq's new novel, “Destroy”, is scheduled for January 7, thunderclap Tuesday December 21 on social networks.

A fan of the writer on Twitter claims to have bought it on a site and read it in two days.

He even put the first few pages online.

More than a simple incident yes, because Houellebecq, the most read French writer of his generation and the most translated in the world, creates the event with each new work, in the mystery as well kept as an album of Coldplay or Mylène Farmer.

"Annihilate", a 730-page novel presented in a nice edition with hard cover and integrated bookmark, was sent to the press on Friday December 17th with an express recommendation: do not say or write a word before the 30th. , a week before its release.

Tuesday evening, its publisher Flammarion fell from the clouds on the eve of the holidays and for some, the holidays.

It was the author's agent who first spotted the leak on social networks and alerted the house which houses Houellebecq's works.

The book that is found in two clicks on a hacking site looks exactly like the e-book format of the novel.

However, it would be a scan and not a PDF, according to the publishing house, which hopes to make it impossible to access the pirate site from this Wednesday via a legal process.

No PDF of the book had been produced, precisely to avoid any contagion.

Already a leak before the publication of "Submission"

This is not the first time that a new Houellebecq has leaked before its release. This was already the case with "Soumission" six years ago. But, two weeks before the release of the author's new novel "Elementary Particles", this hacking is messy. To give an idea of the madness that surrounds each marketing of a new work by the writer, even a small unpublished brochure on the philosopher Schopenhauer had earned him an invitation to the 20 Hours of France 2 then presented by David Pujadas.

In 2015, “Submission”, which focused on the presidential election of an Islamic candidate, was released on January 7. The very day of the Charlie Hebdo attack. This terrible coincidence - Houellebecq was a good friend of Bernard Maris, one of the columnists of the murdered newspaper - had led to the end of any promotion on his part and his placing under police protection.

For “Annihilate”, the publishing house warned as soon as the work was sent that the 2010 Goncourt Prize for “the Map and the territory” would not give any interview.

There is no doubt that this passionate hacking and hacking enthusiast - as evidenced by several characters in his books - is following the case very closely.

It is forbidden to evoke the contents of "To annihilate" before December 30th.

We can only point out that Houellebecq always feeds on political news there with a masterful sense of anticipation.
