The German film "Ich bin dein Mensch" has overcome another hurdle in the Oscar race.

Maria Schrader's futuristic tragic comedy made it onto the so-called shortlist of a total of 15 candidates, as the Oscar Academy announced on Tuesday.

Entries from 93 countries applied for the Oscar in the »International Feature Film« category for 2022.

"Ich bin dein Mensch" was selected for the Oscar race in mid-September by German Films, the foreign agency of German film.

Maren Eggert plays a scientist who is supposed to test a humanoid robot (Dan Stevens) as a partner.

One of the strong contenders is the Danish film »Flee«, which depicts the dangerous journey of a gay Afghan refugee to Europe.

Also in the preselection are the Italian Paolo Sorrentino with "The Hand of God" and the Japanese Ryusuke Hamaguchi for "Drive My Car".

Star composer Hans Zimmer has two chances this time: The 64-year-old made it onto a shortlist of 15 with his compositions for the science fiction drama “Dune” and for the James Bond film “No Time to Die” Candidates.

Zimmer last made it into the Oscar finals in 2018 - he owed his eleventh nomination to the score for Christopher Nolan's war drama "Dunkirk".

Zimmer received an Oscar in 1995 for "The Lion King".

Director Denis Villeneuve brought the German special effects artist Gerd Nefzer on board for the visually stunning scenes of »Dune«.

After the preselection, the film is now one of ten candidates for a special effects Oscar.

In 2018, Nefzer won one of the coveted trophies for “Blade Runner 2049”.

Beyoncé versus Jay-Z

In the running for the Oscar for the best film song is the ballad "Be Alive" by pop superstar Beyoncé for the tennis drama "King Richard".

Beyoncé will compete against her husband Jay-Z, who produced the film "Guns Go Bang" with Kid Cudi for the Netflix western "The Harder They Fall".

Billie Eilish's Bond theme song "No Time To Die" also made the list.

On February 8th, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce the nominations for the 94th Academy Awards.

The prizes will then be presented in Hollywood on March 27th.
