Telegram is now the main competitor of the Meta subsidiary WhatsApp.
However, the app doesn't have a good reputation in Germany - maybe a new feature will change that.
Dubai - The reputation of the messenger app Telegram in Germany has recently deteriorated significantly.
The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution has been keeping an eye on the messenger service for a long time: More and more constitutionally critical groups are using the app to exchange information.
So also corona deniers and right-wing extremists.
The company has been letting hatred, agitation and the like run wild so far, which is why fake news and calls for mobilization are spreading rapidly.
That's why politicians are calling for restrictions or even a ban.
So far unimpressed by this, information is now circulating about a new exciting feature that is to be developed for the app.
Telegram: New feature prevents spoilers
As a video on the
platform
shows, a new function for Telegram users seems to be available soon. This works as a kind of "spoiler protection". Senders can disguise typed messages before they are sent, so the recipient only sees that he has received a message, but not what its content is. The obfuscation is only released with a click and the message can be read.
This new function is probably an improvement, especially for chat groups.
You can finally chat with friends about films or series without spoiling those in the group who have not yet seen the film or series.
The users on
are also enthusiastic and write, among other things: "This is really really cool" or "I've been waiting for this, finally!"
Telegram: Unclear when the update will come
So far, however, it is still unclear when the update with the new "spoiler protection function" will come and users can then make use of it.
It remains to be seen whether competitor WhatsApp will follow suit and develop a similar function.
The company from Silicon Valley only received a major update a few weeks ago with three new features.
