Hotel and catering: towards an agreement on wages

2021-12-22T15:14:00.541Z

While the sector suffers from an unprecedented labor shortage, the employers are proposing to increase minimum wages by 16.3%.

Barring a dramatic twist, minimum wages in the hotel and catering industry will soon be increased.

On Wednesday, the CFDT (31% of the vote in professional elections) indicated that it was preparing to sign the proposal made by the employers on December 16, to increase the salary grid by 16.3% on average.

This grid fixes the lowest remuneration (by step), the company being able to pay its employee beyond.

Dating from 2018, it was urgently needed to improve it.

While the sector suffers from a glaring lack of manpower, the minimum salaries of several levels are lower than the minimum wage.

Despite a proposal described as

"historic"

by the employers - the new grid guarantees that the lowest salary is 5% higher than the minimum wage - the CFDT is for the moment the only trade union organization ready to affix its signature.

For a branch agreement to be validated, it must be signed by unions representing at least 30% of the votes in professional elections.

With the exception: any opposition representing at least 50% of the votes, would render it null and void.

CGT and FO should not oppose the proposal

The CGT, the branch's majority union (36% of the vote), will not vote on the employers' proposal.

But she shouldn't be against it.

A meeting will be held early next week to decide on the subject.

The FO-FGTA will not sign the employers' proposal either, without opposing it.

"

The FGTA-FO will not oppose a grid expected by employees since 2018,

" confides Nabil Nazzouz, FGTA-FO federal secretary for hotels, cafes and restaurants (26% of the vote).

Admittedly, this is not enough to slow down the haemorrhaging of job losses, but it has the merit of answering part of the problem ”

.

Under these conditions (and whatever the position of the CFE-CGC union), the new grid will prevail.

The 30% approval mark is crossed with the signing of the CFDT, and that of 50% opposition will not be.

Setting minimum wages, the new grid will not result in a generalized increase of 16.3% of wages in the sector.

"The objective is to improve the purchasing power of our employees, between 5 and 8%",

recently assured Hervé Becam, confederal vice-president of the Union of trades and hospitality industries (Umih), main employers' organization in the hotel and restaurant industry
