Italian choir of virologists sings vaccination appeal: What rhymes with panettone?

In order to get even more Italians to get the corona vaccination, three nationally known virologists have repackaged »Jingle Bells«. The reactions are, uh, subdued.

In Italy, a video is currently making the rounds in which many do not know whether to laugh or cry - because it may be useful and important, but at the same time it is so badly done that the Christmas omicron gloom wins the upper hand when looking at it.

To the melody of the Christmas classic »Jingle Bells«, the three virologists Andrea Crisanti, Matteo Bassetti and Fabrizio Pregliasco sing the vaccination appeal »Sì sì sì sì sì vax, vacciniamoci« with serious faces.

"Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, for vaccination, let's get vaccinated" is the awkward battle cry, which comes up with weird rhymes like "Mangia il panettone, vai a fare l'iniezione": "Eat the panettone, go and do." get the injection «.

Don't kiss your grandparents, protect yourself and others, experience a relaxed Christmas thanks to booster vaccinations - what the scientists propose is standard, but one that makes a particular effort here, in view of the horrific forecasts for the development of the pandemic in the coming weeks.

In addition to pitying smiles and understanding for the advance, there was also criticism of the virologists' clip on social networks - and not only because all three of them are singing very crookedly.

The performance was embarrassing and ridiculous, worse than any song with the participation of national players, some cautioned.

Others noted that the blurred lines of songs with no recognizable rhyming pattern were unscientific and therefore even misleading.

What is probably meant is the assumption "Il Covid non ci sarà più, se ci aiuti anche tu".

In German: »Covid will no longer exist if you help us«.

Little hope of success for the "three tenors"

As is well known, this is not set - but the song is not a scientific treatise, but the apparently desperate attempt to persuade at least one or the other unwilling to vaccinate to spades in the face of the approaching omicron catastrophe.

But that is precisely what the “three tenors” deny their critics.

The journalist and author Stefano Menichini writes that the virologists are not very convincing: "I cannot imagine that someone who is vaccine skeptic or opponent of being convinced by this little song on the radio." only to the glory of those who carried it out «.
