Shai Shama, a businessman, is seeking compensation in the amount of NIS 865 for libel, following investigations into his family in the news edition in the past two years. "

Shai Shama, a businessman and the brother of the mayor of Ramat Gan, Carmel Shama HaCohen, is suing News 13 and reporter Omri Maniv in the amount of NIS 865,000.

This follows investigations into his case and his father's case, which have been broadcast in the news edition for the past two years.

A lawsuit filed by Bossi, Negbi, Aviani, Cohen, Eyal & Co. states that the investigation alleges that since Cohen took office in the Ramat Gan municipality, he has granted permits for real estate owned by his brother and father Pinchas, which are false.

According to the first article, which aired in February 2020 and was entitled "How did the Ramat Gan municipality work to promote a business owned by the mayor's father?"

Another article that aired last July under the headline "How did Carmel Shama and his father get apartments worth millions?", Claimed that the municipality under Shama promoted projects in the city, for which his associates have an economic interest.

"The article alleges that Shai Shama and his father opened a 'Cola from Baghdad' store on a property on Malkei Tzedek Street in Ramat Gan, without being given a building permit and Form 4," the lawsuit states, "and that after Mr. Shama was elected to the city, the municipality decided to promote Form 4 "Without any enforcement proceedings against the family business ... the truth is completely different and (Shai Shama) does not own the rights in the property, did not open a business in the property and did not operate a business there without a building permit or Form 4 which was trained after his brother's choice."

Another property raised in the News 13 investigation is located on Jabotinsky Street in the city, with the claim that it was purchased by Shai Shama's business partners, and since Carmel Shama Hacohen was elected mayor, he has started promoting the property.

"The truth is quite different," the lawsuit filed by the brother claimed.

"That her mother does not really know those businessmen. He is not their partner. He has no connection to the property on Jabotinsky Street and has no economic interest or business connection in relation to that property."

In his lawsuit, Shama claims that the defendants published "lies, which harmed the plaintiff and brought out his bad slander during and outside prime time. The lawsuit further states that" for the rating altar it is permissible to lie and slander.

The plaintiff's name was stained and severely damaged, with all of the plaintiff's sin being that he was the mayor's brother.

The articles regarding the plaintiff are a real blood libel. "

As stated, her mother is asking the court to order News 13 to compensate him in the amount of NIS 865,776, along with charging the channel for removing the said publications.

In addition, the prosecution requests the publication of a clarification notice on behalf of the channel, and an error notice in the publication in the main edition and on the News 13 website.

News 13 responded: "We are behind the investigation and Omri Maniv wrote. It is strange that the indictment has been discussed for many hours in the media arena only, without it reaching us at all so far. When we receive it, we will respond in court."
