The British pop duo with George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley released the song in 1984.
For many years it has achieved top placements at Christmas time and, according to GfK Entertainment, is the most frequently placed song in the history of the German charts at 153 weeks.
But so far it had never been enough for the classic to take the top spot.
Mariah Carey and Chris Rea
The first positions on the single charts are also characterized by Christmas: “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey lands in second place, followed by “Driving Home for Christmas” by Chris Rea and “Merry Christmas” by Ed Sheeran and Elton John.
In the album charts, Fynn Kliemann asserts himself with »Nur« and leaves rapper Bushido (»Sonny Black II«) just behind, as GfK Entertainment also announced.
For Kliemann it is the second number 1 album after »POP«.
Abba (»Voyage«, 3rd place), Adele (»30«, 4th place) and Helene Fischer (»Rausch«, 5th place) are still doing well.
