Syria, represented by a student team from the Center for Applied Physics and Basic Sciences, won 9 medals in the international mathematics competition, which was held virtually in Germany, with the participation of 5,200 students from 122 countries around the world.

From Syria, 9 students participated, all of whom were crowned with prizes, five of them silver and four bronze, according to the scientific supervisor of the Center for Applied Physics and Basic Sciences, Basil Sultan, who explained to SANA that the competition, which depends on scientific research in mathematics, was attended by 12 thousand students from 122 countries, of whom 5200 students qualified, including 9 Syrians.

Sultan added that "the participation was official in the name of the Syrian Arab Republic and through the Internet, and the examination was monitored, which is the first time for it," pointing out that participating and winning the award was a response to some European media reports that criticized and abused the way education in Syria.

He indicated that the aim of the participation is to prepare researchers to form scientific research teams and to direct outstanding students through them to move away from medicine and engineering and engage in mathematics, physics and chemistry to create a nucleus of Syrian researchers in the future.

For her part, the Administrative Supervisor of the Center for Applied Physics, Reem Kanaan, indicated that the nine students who won the awards are from the center's students and have been trained for a year and a half on the mechanism of scientific research, correct communication and the way to access information simply, away from the curriculum, pointing out that the professors specialized in the field of mathematics They searched for the mechanism of this competition and came up with the idea, and after reaching the results, the students underwent training courses on the topics of the competition for a month before participating.

Kanaan indicated that the students underwent three stages during the competition on scientific research and the mechanism of thinking and arriving at the correct mathematical idea, and then the third stage, which depends on speed in solving the answers.

Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbaa, pointed out during his honoring of the winners and their trainers at the Ministry's building today that the participation of students in this competition adds to them a special system of information that helps them to know the foundations of scientific and collective research and enter the labor market.

Ali Kanaan, Asmaa Al-Omar, Muhammad Al-Muhaimid, Lana Shaqrouf, Obada Taghli, Laith Abu Ali, Ghadeer Ali, Tariq Bishara, Tim Watfa, students from different Syrian governorates expressed to SANA their joy at the awards they won after raising the name of their country, Syria in international forums, noting that they underwent a training period at the Physics Center Applied by trained staff.

They indicated that the competition focused on scientific research skills and finding accurate information, and that the questions that were accurate and difficult would benefit them in developing mathematical knowledge skills and focus on mathematical thinking skills.
