Nothing with Christmas Eve: A 50-year-old presumably has car tires on more than 380 vehicles in an Eifel community in Rhineland-Palatinate.

This is reported by the Andernach police department.

The 50-year-old man was caught in the act on Friday night and officials were able to arrest him.

The Südwestrundfunk had previously reported on the case.

Witnesses had therefore seen the man tampering with various car tires in the community of Plaidt near Koblenz.

The police called for had been looking for the alleged tire stabber for about three hours in the village.

At around 3:30 a.m. they were able to catch a suspect who was tampering with a car.

When the officers arrived, some of the tires were still out of air, according to the Andernach police.

A total of around 1,500 tires were stabbed.

In almost all of the more than 380 cars, all four tires were damaged.

Property damage of around 150,000 euros

The arrested 50-year-old is already known to the police through several criminal offenses - including damage to property.

He said he had rubber gloves, a balaclava and nail scissors with him when he was arrested.

According to the officials, there were traces of rubber on the nail scissors.

The police estimated the property damage at around 150,000 euros for the time being.

The public prosecutor's office is now investigating the 50-year-old for property damage.

The motive for this is completely unclear.

The suspect has so far denied the act.

The man will be heard by a judge before a decision is made on pre-trial detention.

It cannot currently be ruled out that other vehicles have been tackled.

Witnesses as well as injured parties are asked to report to the police in Andernach.
