Dumplings, goose and a lot of dessert: the question quickly arises whether the last bite was not one too many.

With these tips you can combat the feeling of fullness.

Kassel - who doesn't know it: As soon as the last fork has been eaten, roast or goose, a feeling of fullness and discomfort overwhelms us.

Christmas and New Year are extremely bad occasions to start dieting, but of course it makes sense to make sure when putting together the Christmas menu that the feast does not become indigestible.

For example, if you serve your guests a soup with as much cream as possible for the starter and a lasagna with bechamel sauce as the main course, you shouldn't also serve an ice cream bomb or chocolate mousse for dessert.

It would be better to think about beforehand which foods have a positive effect on rapid digestion and to integrate them into the holiday menu - but of course hidden in such a way that it does not look like a diet meal.

Bitter substances stimulate digestion quickly

If you have overdone it with the good food anyway, there are fortunately some natural helpers that stimulate the metabolism and calm the stomach again after feasting.

As is well known, bitter substances are the top priority when it comes to stimulating digestion: They help in the production of digestive juices in the stomach, liver, gall bladder, pancreas and intestine and help against heartburn.

They develop their positive effect particularly well if you consume them at the beginning of a heavy meal.

A delicious salad made from endive, radicchio or chicory, enriched with apple pieces, is perfect for a start.

A well-known Christmas classic also has bitter substances: kale.

So why not serve a digestive kale salad with apple and fresh figs instead of the creamy starter soup on Christmas Eve?

Feeling full after the feast?

Fermented products for the digestive kick

Fermented products also provide a real digestive kick.

The following applies here: It doesn't always have to be solid food - like kimchi, for example.

The Korean dish kimchi is a preparation method used to ferment vegetables to make them last longer.

In Korea, Chinese cabbage is traditionally used for this, but it can also be prepared from many other vegetables.

Radish or cucumber, for example, are particularly suitable.

A fermented drink can also help to boost the metabolism: Kombucha (fermented tea), for example, contains lactic acid bacteria, which have a positive effect on bowel function - a glass between courses is more than enough.

Digestive schnapps after meals: does the classic really bring anything?

A classic for digestive problems is the glass of schnapps after a meal.

The custom with all due respect, but alcohol fundamentally inhibits the mobility of the stomach.

So whoever drinks wine or beer with food delays the digestive process.

A cup of herbal tea, for example, is better than a glass of schnapps to digest.

It doesn't necessarily have to be the classic gastrointestinal tea made from fennel, caraway and aniseed.

Peppermint tea can also have a stimulating effect after the sumptuous feast: the essential oils contained in the tea stimulate digestion and relieve flatulence.

Christmas is celebrated all over the world.

But where does this custom * come from?

However, the Christian origins mostly play a subordinate role - and so the festival changed over the centuries from a religious get-together to a family celebration.
