(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 24 - Over 9 out of 10 Italians (93%) have decided to spend Christmas in their homes, with family or with close relatives and friends, under the pressure of concern for the rise of infections and of the spread of the Omicron variant.
This was revealed by a Coldiretti / Ixè analysis which highlights the tendency to spend the holidays at home.
The result - underlines the agricultural organization in a note - is a 38% increase in food spending compared to last year for an average value of 113 euros per family, while the home-made preparation of the main Christmas meal - continues Coldiretti - rises to an average time of 2.9 hours. But there is also 9% of Italians - notes the organization - who will not be infected by the passion for cooking and will order take-away or use ready meals. Coldiretti reports that the arrival of the reinforced green pass still allows 3.5 million Italians to return to celebrate Christmas in restaurants, agritourisms and pizzerias, even if it is half the amount compared to 2019, before the pandemic. The organization claims that among the products most present on the tables there isit is the sparkling wine that is confirmed as a must-have product for eight out of ten Italians (84%), while the panettone with 77% beats the still pandoro at 69% in terms of preferences, but both often consumed in combination with local desserts that are homemade in almost half of households (47%). Finally, the organization recalls that with the food and wine specialties among the most popular gifts of Christmas 2020, the tables are enriched above all with the typical regional products of the anniversary.
