Children and adolescents had to go to distance learning - while, according to the Child Protection Association, adults allowed themselves too much freedom. Now the association is demanding that the schools not be closed in the coming year.

The German Child Protection Association has called for schools and daycare centers to be avoided in the coming year.

"The most important thing is to keep schools and daycare centers open in 2022," said President Heinz Hilgers to the editorial network in Germany.

"In many regions in Germany, even if there was no nationwide lockdown, schools were closed," he criticized.

"Teachers and many students were often in quarantine, which is why classes could not be taught."

Because of the worsening infection situation, Thuringia was the first federal state to announce that it would not initially return to regular classroom teaching after the Christmas break.

First, the vacation will be extended by two days, followed by distance classes until mid-January.

Afterwards, alternating lessons in smaller learning groups are planned, announced the Ministry of Education in Erfurt.

Child Protection Association President Hilgers, on the other hand, holds that children are in a difficult position because adults have allowed themselves too much freedom.

"Football games with an audience, parties in bars and clubs were possible for the amusement of adults and children suffered as a result," criticized Hilgers.

He demanded: "The older ones have to withdraw."
