The non-food discounter Tedi is said to disregard the current corona rules for retailers.

The police step in.

The company gives a clear reason.

Kassel - The 2G concept in retail in Germany * has been in place since December 6th.

Only people who have recovered from Corona or who have been vaccinated against Corona * have access to certain shops and other facilities.

But not all businesses adhere to the prescribed measures in the fight against the pandemic.

The non-food discounter Tedi is defending itself against the corona admission restrictions in its branches.

In some places the police were already on duty because the 2G rule was not implemented there.

In the Offenbach region, for example, two branches of the discounter Tedi have already been raided by the police *.

According to the police, neither the customers were checked, nor were there any indications of the 2G obligation to provide evidence.

Does the 2G rule not apply to Tedi?

The discounter has commented on this.

Corona: Discounter Tedi defends itself against the 2G rule in retail

"It is important to us to make a contribution to combating the corona pandemic and to implement appropriate measures in our branches," the discounter said on request.

He mentions a well-functioning hygiene concept in all Tedi stores in Germany.

"To this day, no corona infections are known from a visit to our branches," the discounter continues.

But Tedi sees himself exempt from complying with the 2G rule for non-supply-related retail.

The reason: The non-food discounter is convinced that its range is part of the basic supply in large parts of Germany.

Despite Corona, no 2G at Tedi: Discounter counts its range of products as part of daily needs

If products for everyday use predominate in the range, the so-called mixed companies are usually also allowed to open their branches without 2G requirements, argues the discounter. "We have checked our product ranges extensively and can use product lists to prove that in almost all cases we carry these so-called basic security items and that the 2G regulation therefore does not have to be applied in our branches," the company said when asked.

According to Tedi, this status is said to have been checked by several authorities and then the branches were allowed to open to all customers.

However, since the requirements differ locally, opening individual Tedi branches to all customers is prohibited in some places.

The company reacts to this: "Of course we will comply with this instruction, but we reserve the right to take legal action."

A ruling on 2G in retail could meanwhile trigger a wave of lawsuits.

In Lower Saxony, unvaccinated people are now allowed to go shopping again despite Corona *.
