According to a new survey, around 40 percent of parents would have their children vaccinated against Covid-19.

A third consider the corona risk to be overrated.

Kassel - Almost 40 percent of parents would have their five to eleven-year-old children vaccinated against Corona *. This was the result of a representative survey by the Barmer health insurance company. First of all, the Evangelical Press Service (epd) reported on it. According to the survey, around a third of parents were against vaccination against the coronavirus. At 28 percent, around a quarter of those surveyed were still unsure.

The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) had recently recommended corona vaccinations for children only for five to eleven year olds with previous illnesses.

However, it was also emphasized that if desired, children without previous illnesses could also be vaccinated against Covid-19.

So the decision rests with the parents and the pediatrician.

In Germany, the vaccine for 5 to 11 year olds has been approved for a few weeks.

The corona vaccine for children from the age of twelve * will be vaccinated as early as May.

Covid-19 vaccination for children: a third consider the corona risk to be overrated

The Barmer survey shows that 82 percent of the parents surveyed had a positive attitude towards vaccinations.

However, only 55 percent supported a general corona vaccination.

Almost a third stated that other family members would be seriously at risk from Covid 19 disease.

A large number of parents (77 percent) who refused to have a corona vaccination for their children said they feared side effects.

In addition, around 40 percent felt that they were under pressure from those in favor of the vaccination.

About a third of the rejecting parents also stated that the corona risk was overrated.

According to the Barmer, more than 1,000 parents were interviewed from December 15th to December 21st for the survey.
