French fries panic at McDonald's: Fast food chain is reducing portions

The international fast food chain McDonald's reports an acute French fries emergency.

In Japan, therefore, only smaller portions are sold.

In Japan in particular, the number of visits to fast food restaurants is increasing sharply over Christmas.

However, there is now a serious emergency there.

As reported by spiegel.de, McDonald's is currently selling smaller French fries portions to its customers in Japan.

The reason: acute delivery problems due to the Corona * crisis.

As the company announced, around 2,900 Japanese branches were affected by the French fries emergency.

In order to avoid further bottlenecks, the portion sizes were finally limited from December 24th to December 30th - over Christmas of all times.

The Christian festival is usually not celebrated in Japan, since Shintoism and Buddhism are the predominant religions there. Many people there, however, are drawn to all kinds of fast food restaurants, such as McDonald's, Burger King or Kentucky Fried Chicken, especially over the Christian holidays. As ntv.de reports, some of them even accept table reservations months before Christmas. The contemplative dinner with fried chicken, burger and fries has become an annual tradition for the Japanese since the 1970s. At that time, Kentucky Fried Chicken advertised that people should eat fast food at Christmas - and the people of Japan follow this call to this day.

This year, however, the corona pandemic will have a major impact on ship transport, among other things.

According to McDonald's, efforts are currently being made to import potatoes by plane so that many customers in Japan do not have to be satisfied with a rationed number of fries for too long.
