Recall campaign at Aldi: A mulled wine is immediately withdrawn from the market because the bottles could burst.

Essen - 2020 was a difficult year for Christmas market fanatics.

The lockdown followed in November, which meant that almost every major event was canceled and every store had to close.

This year the gates to the Christmas wonderlands were reopened, but many cities decided to forego the magic of the booths.

It's difficult times for mulled wine producers to be able to sell their product.

They are therefore trying to sell their popular hot drink more in retail outlets.

The wholesaler CA Warren GmbH now had to recall its article because the mulled wine bottles could be dangerous.

Recall: mulled wine bottles can burst

The wholesaler is recalling the item “Deutscher Winzerglühwein Weiß” from Markgräfler Winzer eG in the 0.75 liter bottle.

In the press release, the company writes: “This recall is being made purely as a precaution, as it cannot be ruled out that fermentation processes may occur due to yeast in individual cases.

This fermentation process can lead to a pressure build-up in the bottle or even to the bottle bursting. "

Don't open bottles: what customers can do now

The recall was made “for reasons of preventive consumer protection”, but the danger posed by the bottles should not be underestimated.

When glass bottles burst, splinters can fly around and cause cuts and eye injuries.

Customers should therefore not open the bottles and should ideally return them to their shop in a sealed bag.

The purchase price will also be reimbursed without presenting the receipt on site.

Mulled wine offered in branches of Aldi Nord: Many federal states are affected

The mulled wine was only offered in the branches of Aldi Nord, as the company announced in Essen on Tuesday.

Consumers in Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, parts of Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, parts of North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia are affected by the recall.

Aldi Süd does not have this article in its range.

Mulled wines from the supermarket were subjected to an extensive test in 2020.

The result should be astonishing, because a discounter product was the test winner.

So it doesn't always have to be the expensive one.

As an alternative to the bought bottle, mulled wine lovers can bring the Christmas market feeling home despite Corona.

Making mulled wine yourself is anything but complicated.
