(ANSA) - JERUSALEM, DEC 25 - "Compared to Christmas last year, participation is much greater and this is an encouraging sign". This was said by the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Pierbattista Pizzaballa, in the homily of the Midnight Mass in Bethlehem, underlining however that for the second consecutive year "an important part is still missing for complete joy. Pilgrims are missing". "We hope that with a joint action of politics, the Church and tour operators, local and international, we can - he continued - find safe ways of resuming this activity, despite the pandemic". In his sermon, the Patriarch then made an excursus on the situation of the territories that fall under the management of his Diocese, from Cyprus to Jordan to Israel and Gaza. And just at the Mass as thePalestinian President Abu Mazen did not participate last year due to the pandemic, but Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh was present with various ministers and the mayor of Bethlehem, Anton Salman. Pizzaballa will also celebrate Christmas Mass today in the church of Santa Caterina, adjacent to the Basilica of the Nativity. (HANDLE).
