The cargo came by speedboat: the police in Hong Kong said they had discovered a record amount of ketamine. Corona travel restrictions could also have been fatal for the dealers.

In Hong Kong, drug investigators confiscated 1.3 tons of ketamine.

It is the largest drug discovery in the city to date, the police from the Chinese special administrative region said on Saturday.

The street sales value of the synthetic drugs is estimated at 840 million Hong Kong dollars (95 million euros).

Police reportedly confiscated the drugs on Friday morning when they were being unloaded from a speedboat in the coastal district of Lei Yue Mun.

Three men from Hong Kong and one Indian man were arrested and taken into custody.

According to the Hong Kong police, drug traffickers are currently dependent on larger and riskier shipments because of the Corona travel restrictions because they can no longer smuggle in drug couriers by plane.

They use fishing boats or ocean-going ships to bring the drugs near the Hong Kong coast.

"Then they organize speedboats to smuggle the drugs ashore," a police representative told journalists.
