It is a world premiere that the British television station ITV broadcast on Christmas Eve: For the first time, Duchess Kate played the piano in public - at the side of pop star Tom Walker at the Christmas concert in Westminster Abbey.
Walker, a Scottish singer-songwriter who rose to international fame in 2017 with his hit "Leave a Light On," met Kate at a charity event.
Then the Duchess told him about her idea for a Christmas concert.
Kate dedicated the interpretation of Walker's Christmas single "For Those Who Can't Be Here" to the people who did their best during the pandemic.
Kate, Duchess of Cambridge:
“We have had such a dark time.
We have faced so many challenges.
We lost loved ones.
We have seen our front line workers come under tremendous pressure.
And we too have become more and more distant and isolated emotionally and socially. "
At the gala, Duchess Kate didn't just sit at the piano.
She also moderated the event, which included teachers, employees of foundations, rescue workers and members of the armed forces in the audience.
