Television: the TF1-M6 merger shakes up the audiovisual landscape

2022 media report! Since the announcement of the merger project between the TF1 and M6 groups in May 2021, the audiovisual world has been in turmoil. The file is examined both by the Competition Authority and by the CSA. The Competition Authority will have to decide whether the operation bringing together two groups controlling 70% of TV advertising revenue in France can be accepted. And, if so, what remedies should be imposed on the future group to maintain fair competition on the market. For their part, TF1 and M6 argue that it is necessary to consider not the advertising market for television only, but the larger one including also digital advertising controlled by Google and Facebook. For its part, the CSA must check that the future group will only have seven TNT channels, against ten currently.
