The creator of "Sabri Mernan" takes the stage: "I have a longing for theater" | Israel today

Robbie Duanias broke out in the '90s in the "Comedy Store" • Since then he has gone behind the scenes as a writer and director of series such as "The Pajamas" and "Sabri Marnan" • Now he returns to the stage in a wild show by Oded Paz, and enjoys every moment

Many years have passed since Ruby Duanias broke out as one of the stars of the "Comedy Store" alongside Zvika Hadar, Gil Sassover, Itai Segev and Assaf Eshtar.

In recent years he has been mostly behind the scenes in the roles of creator, screenwriter and director.

Among other things, he wrote and directed "The Pajamas" and "Playful Sabri."

He is now returning to the stage in a wild show called "Oded Paz and the Helmets", which will take place on the occasion of New Year's Eve on December 31 at Zappa Tel Aviv.

In the show he plays "Moti Flutes", a character he played in the series "The Pajamas" in a guest role.

Mutti is a prisoner, and every time someone in the series goes to jail - he was by his side.

He also plays classical pieces with two flutes on his nose.

The show will also feature Ilan Rosenfeld, Tal Musari, the confused Yuval, Danit Greenberg, Yaniv Polishuk, the Karkokli sisters and more, and among other things, cult songs from the "Pajamas" series will be performed.

"This show is an initiative of Oded Paz," says Duanias (54).

"We started putting on the show a little before Hanukkah, and the audience fills the halls. It's amazing. The guests take turns. I got to participate in three shows to date. There's not really a neat plot, but there are all sorts of excerpts the audience remembers from the series."

Did you imagine that "The Pajamas" would reach nine seasons and become a cult?

"In the first season I did not believe there would be a second season. Also in the first season of 'Sabri Mernan' I thought there would be no second season and it is already in the seventh season. It's not that I'm pessimistic, but I prefer not to have another season.

Critics do not die for "playful explanations."

"When 'Comedy Store' came up, the critics wrote to keep the kids away from the TV. When 'Sun' came up, the critics killed her. The critics' job is to say 'oh that shit, need something much better'. "So let them make a living. The audience loves because it's funny. You see something that is supposed to entertain and lighten the next 23 minutes for you."

You started as an actor and you have not played for many years.

Miss it?

"By and large I gave up being up front. It's less cool to me. When I was in the Comedy Store 30 years ago I wanted to be an actor, but its exposure and its byproduct, that everyone knows you, was less pleasant to me. So I went to a place that is less glamorous and still satisfies me. The desire to create and be an artist. It was not a conscious decision, it's something that just happened to me, things are rolling. I have no longing for the role of the actor. Indeed, I would like to play in the theater. "At the Khan Theater for three years, and I miss that."

In the shadow of the preparations for New Year's Eve, there is a chance that there will again be restrictions on gatherings.

"It obviously resonates in the background, but I'm not the economic body behind this show. I attend the show because of my love for 'pajamas' and encouraging Paz. I do it voluntarily. It would be very sad if they go to restrictions, but Oded says he has "All kinds of solutions. I don't really get into it. I do it out of great love."
