Finally more time for hot dogs after shopping: With a new function in the Ikea app, long waiting times at the checkout are no longer necessary.

But a bit surprised.

Germany - With the new "Shop & Go" function in the app, Ikea wants to make shopping significantly less stressful for its customers: Paying in the furniture store should be even faster with the help of the app.

The concept is already being tested in five branches.

In the summer of 2022, super-fast payments should be possible throughout Germany.

Ikea offers a new payment option via the app: “Shop & Go” is intended to shorten waiting times

The furniture giant had already tried to put an end to queuing at the end of shopping with the express and self-service checkouts. But especially at peak times, such as on Saturdays, long queues at the checkout are still part of the “Ikea shopping experience” in many branches. No problem if you plan to have an overnight party at Ikea anyway because of a snow storm, as the Kreiszeitung.de * reports. In all other cases, however, it is often boring and annoying.

About the new feature "Shop & Go" app Ikea is now offering another payment option: All items can be scanned via the app and are then paid to the self-checkout already while shopping in furniture stores, reported

giga.de

.

Without having to take everything out of the car again.

In the app, customers also always see the amount to be paid for all items that are already in their shopping cart and have been scanned.

And that is exactly what could significantly shorten waiting times at the checkout, if not eliminate them.

Because, although the already well-known self-service checkouts should also make payment significantly faster, the tedious process of scanning the items at the self-service checkouts often fails (more service news on RUHR24 *).

Ikea app gives customers an overview: scan goods while shopping

Because up until now, all items that had previously been gradually placed in the shopping cart (or the Ikea bag) had to be taken out of the car, scanned and placed in a specially designed compartment.

A process that users of the “Shop & Go” app should now be spared thanks to the new function.

In NRW * the feature has not yet been used, but according to Ikea Germany, “Shop & Go” is already available in five furniture stores (Berlin-Tempelhof, Dresden, Frankfurt Nieder-Eschbach, Hamburg-Moorfleet, Karlsruhe).

Another advantage of the app: According to

giga.de

, the app gives customers an overview of how much they have to pay for the item at the end of the purchase while they are shopping.

The surprise effect after “just buying a couple of tea lights” * having to pay 300 euros could therefore not materialize in the future.

For this purpose, the app was completely redesigned in summer 2021.

New function in the Ikea app: Pay by QR code

In order to be able to use the app function, customers have to scan a QR code once at the beginning of their purchase in the furniture store.

At the end of the purchase, the app generates another QR code that customers have to scan in at a self-service checkout to start the payment process.

As

giga.de

knows, however, it is not possible to pay directly via the app - which would again speed up the payment process many times over. But here the detour via one of the self-service checkouts is still necessary. Even those who still change their minds and still want to pay at a till with a cashier cannot accelerate the payment process with the QR code generated by the app - all items then have to be placed on the cashier's belt as usual.

But there is also something good about that, explains Miriam Arndt, Manager at Ikea Germany, in a message: “We still give our customers the choice: whether conventional checkout, express checkout or Shop & Go - our customers decide how they want to pay for their Ikea purchases . “
