(ANSA) - NEW DELHI, DEC 27 - The Indian government has frozen all the bank accounts of the Missionaries of Charity, the order founded by Mother Teresa.
This was announced by the governor of West Bengal, in untweet, in which she defines the decision as "shocking".
"The minister made the decision on Christmas day," says Banerjee.
"The 22,000 patients of the order's hospitals and employees were left without food and medicine. Respect for the law is essential, but humanitarian efforts must not be compromised," he added.
It is not known why the accounts were frozen, while the Delhi government did not comment on the decision.
Last December 14 a family home of the missionaries in Gujarat was charged with "forced conversions" of the guest girls.
