There were also actions against the state corona measures in Germany on the Christmas weekend.

Several hundred people demonstrated in Schweinfurt on Sunday evening, some of them violently.

Assaults during the demonstration resulted in several arrests and injuries, including a four-year-old child.

The police arrested eight people and initiated an administrative offense against 44 people, according to the police in Lower Franconia on Monday night.

The child came into contact with a cloud of pepper spray and needed medical attention.

The mother tried to break through a cordon and took her offspring with her.

"The child is fine now," said a police superintendent on Sunday evening.

The child had been cared for by rescue workers because of eye irritation and was symptom-free again after a few minutes after an eye wash.

A complaint has been made against the mother, who, according to the police, comes from the so-called lateral thinker scene.

Initially, several hundred "peaceful protesters" had gathered, the police said.

The police had pointed out restrictions to be observed, such as the mask requirement, via loudspeaker vans.

Then people sat together in marching columns, which the officers tried to break through police chains and barriers until the emergency services were injured with "fists and kicks, some of them moderately severe," according to the police.

It was necessary to stop further attacks with batons.

Aggressive behavior by numerous demonstrators

Officials were "insulted and spat at" by participants in the meeting, it said.

“Our emergency services had already been forced to use baton and pepper spray against aggressive participants in the assembly.

We urge all participants to peacefully exercise their basic rights and to adhere to the rules, «tweeted the Lower Franconia police on Sunday evening.

The police asked the participants to "clearly distinguish themselves from rioters and criminals."

The meeting had not been registered, the Schweinfurt police station was on duty with numerous support staff.

During the sometimes chaotic scenes, a 50-year-old protester sustained a head laceration, the authorities said.

Rapid trials for those arrested

Four of the eight arrests will be heard in court on Monday afternoon.

It is resistance to law enforcement officers and attacks on police officers.

In addition, charges were filed against four people for instigating an "unpeaceful protest" under the Assembly Act.

In the case of an elevator made up of 44 people, administrative offense proceedings were initiated against all participants.

"Do not allow right-wing extremists, Reich citizens or anti-Semites to take control of you and do not hinder any measures taken by the police," the police report said.
