While 400 meters above the ground, Clive ordered the cockpit windshield to be covered and ignoring ground-level warning system warnings, which advised him to circle in the air to land correctly when he was 62-65 meters high.
The avgeekery reported that the plane hit the asphalt of Kuibyshev Airport at a speed of 280 km / h, overturned and went up in flames. 63 people were killed on the spot and seven more died at the hospital. 70 of the 94 people on the plane were killed.
The trial revealed that Clive tried to make the blind landing to test his ability as a pilot and win an intervention.
He reportedly seemed cool and even indifferent during the trial even though the Soviet media blamed the tragic crash on his excessive sense of self-confidence.
A year later, in June 1987, Clive was jailed for 15 years for violating all the rules he was commanded to obey.
The newspaper "Soviet Russia" reported that he was released after only 6 years from the beginning of serving his sentence.
His co-pilot, Gennady Jirnov.
Although he did nothing to prevent the crash, he tried to save some of the injured passengers, before he himself died of a heart attack on his way to the hospital.
