Israel: Australians have to stay in the country for 8,000 years for maintenance payments

A man living in Israel has to pay his ex-wife several hundred thousand euros to support their children. According to a report, he is only allowed to leave the country after payment - or he waits until December 31, 1999.

According to his own statements, the Australian Noam Huppert is not allowed to leave his country of residence Israel for about 8,000 years.

This is reported by the Australian news portal »news.com.au«.

According to the information, Huppert followed his former wife to Israel in 2012 to be closer to their children.

Shortly afterwards, the woman sued an Israeli family court.

The court ruled that Huppert had to pay 5000 shekels per child, or around 1427 euros, maintenance per month until the children are 18 years old.

That would correspond to a total of over 500,000 euros.

According to the report, the court ruled that Huppert was not allowed to leave the country until he had paid the full maintenance payment.

In its report, "news.com.au" also shows a screenshot of the ban, which is set until December 31, 1999 - probably the highest possible date that can be selected in the system.

"Imprisoned in Israel since 2013"

The 44-year-old chemist is also not allowed to leave the country for vacation or work.

"I've been locked up in Israel since 2013," said the 44-year-old according to "news.com.au".

Huppert assumes that even more men could be affected by such travel bans.

He speaks out publicly to help others.

It remains unclear in the report whether Huppert has already made maintenance payments and whether he could pay the total amount in advance.
