There are some costly mistakes to avoid when heating in winter.
Find out how you can save money on heating here.
In winter, the time of the sun's rays is shortened and the days are characterized by dreary darkness.
The outside temperatures are also falling.
After a hard day's work in the cold, dark season, there is nothing better than to return to a warm, cozy home.
However, in order for your home to radiate the warmth and cosiness you want, you need to heat it.
That can be very expensive.
However, there are a few things you can do to save a little money on heating your apartment or house.
Save money on heating: set the thermostat correctly
In order to regulate the warmth of a room,
adjustable
thermostat controls
are attached to the radiators.
The desired room temperature can be set correctly with the aid of the thermostat.
If you turn the heating up too high, it will become too warm in your home and you will consume unnecessary energy and money.
Each degree reduces your energy consumption by around six percent.

You can assume that the
first stage of
your heating
corresponds
to about
twelve degrees Celsius
.
Since the temperature difference between the individual levels is approximately four degrees Celsius, at
level five
your apartment will already be
28 degrees Celsius
.
For the living room, you should set the heating to around 20 degrees Celsius, whereas 18 degrees Celsius is the optimal guide value in the bedroom.
Rooms that you rarely use should be heated to at least 16 degrees Celsius, otherwise there is a risk of mold.
Save money on heating?
The magic word is insulation!
In older buildings from the 1960s or 1970s, there are often
uninsulated radiator niches
in the outer walls. To counteract the resulting very high heat loss, you can use insulating materials such as
polyurethane
panels or
airgel mats
. An
aluminum lamination
that reflects the thermal radiation is also recommended. Alternatively, you can move radiators, fill the radiator niche with a mineral insulation material or wall with aerated concrete or you can renew the facade and insulate the wall from the outside.
Also,
heating pipes
and
fittings
will be properly insulated.
Pipe insulation is not only compulsory, it also saves money and thus ensures that no more heat is lost from the heating system on the way from the basement to your apartment.

Windows and doors
should also be
tight
. You can check for yourself whether this is the case. To do this, take a sheet of paper and open the door to be checked or the window that appears to be leaking. Pinch the paper between them, then close the door or window. If you can still pull the paper out, the door or window is leaking. In the case of leaky windows, it is usually sufficient to
replace
the seal or adjust the window sash, whereas you
can install
a
door bottom seal
on doors
.
Like windows and external doors,
roller shutter boxes
should be properly insulated, for example with insulation panels made of polyurethane or phenolic resin.
The panels must be cut to size and installed.
You can also provide the belt feed-through and the roller shutter gap with a brush seal to prevent drafts.

Vent your heater to save money on heating
Is
your heater
making gurgling noises
or not
getting
really warm?
There could be
air in the radiator
, which
uses
more energy.
Use a
vent key to
let the air out of the radiator.
Place a collecting vessel under the vent valve before opening it.
The thermostat should be turned to the highest level.
Let the air escape and then close the vent valve again.
If your apartment or house extends over several floors, you should first vent the lower radiators and then the upper radiators.
Save money on heating by not covering your radiators
Radiators should not be covered, otherwise the heat will build up and not be evenly distributed in the room.
Sofas, for example, must be
at least 30 centimeters
away from the radiator and radiators that are located under windows should not be covered with floor-length windows.
Avoid
unnecessary
radiator cladding
and
regularly
remove
dust
or other
dirt
from your radiators.

Saving money when heating with correct ventilation
You can also save money on heating if you
ventilate properly
.
That means: do not tilt, but
ventilate
.
It is best to open opposite windows and doors at the same time so that there is a
draft
.
After you have closed the windows and doors again, all you have to do is warm up the fresh air.
If, on the other hand, you tilt, massive components and interior walls will also cool down and it will take much longer to reheat rooms to the desired temperature.
In addition, a lot more energy is used in the process.
You should also turn the heating down when nobody is home.
This also saves a lot of energy and therefore money.
