Campo Imperatore stormed during the holidays by skiers and tourists, coming from outside Abruzzo, many from Rome: in the winter resort of the L'Aquila side of the Gran Sasso d'Italia, with its 2,912 meters the highest mountain in the Apennines, in the last few days there are thousands of visitors in Fonte Cerreto, the base location of the cable car.
Same scenes on the ski lifts.
According to the testimonies of tourists, today there are about three thousand skiers who have climbed to the top, yesterday about 1,300.
To go up with the cable car the wait is up to two hours.
"It is an anomalous situation for Campo Imperatore - comment the skiers - usually not very crowded, chosen by thousands of people because it is the only one in the Apennines that has plenty of snow. You can ski very well and the weather is splendid".
The other two mountain stations of Ovindoli and Campo Felice are also crowded;
in particular, many have arrived in second homes to spend the New Year there.
On the lifts of these two mountain resorts, however, the snow is less abundant.
