Corona overshadows New Year's Eve again - to prevent further stress on hospitals, a firecracker ban applies.

However, some varieties can still be sold.

Munich - New Year's Eve will also be celebrated this year in the shadow of the corona virus.

Due to the pandemic, the usual events for New Year's celebrations will also be severely restricted.

There is a ban on firecrackers throughout Germany.

So there will be no large-scale fireworks shows.

Don't worry if you still want to celebrate the start of the New Year with at least a little New Year's Eve, because the sale of small fireworks is allowed despite the ban on firecrackers, as reported by RUHR24 *.

Fireworks ban on New Year's Eve: Small fireworks still allowed - crack peas, party crackers and co.

The sale of classic New Year's Eve fireworks of category F2 with pyro products is prohibited according to the current regulations.

However, grocery chains and discounters are still allowed to sell certain types of fireworks.

Specifically, these are small fireworks under category F1 for pyro products.

These include products such as snap peas, party crackers, floor swirls, table fireworks, ice fountains and sparklers.

These tiny fireworks pose only a very low risk and have a negligible sound level.

From the age of 12, category F1 products can be freely purchased and used throughout the year.

Both shops of the 1-euro chain and large supermarket chains and discounters such as Aldi, Edeka, Lidl and Rewe offer the permitted fireworks within the framework of the regulation.

Corona burdens the health system: The ban on firecrackers is intended to prevent further overload and the risk of infection

But what exactly does the corona pandemic have to do with igniting fireworks on New Year's Eve?

The answer lies in the burden on hospitals.

Larger fireworks can lead to serious injuries and thus put a heavy burden on hospitals, whose capacity is urgently needed in the midst of the critical virus situation, again on New Year's Eve.

"Igniting New Year's Eve fireworks is generally strongly discouraged, also against the background of the high risk of injury and the already enormous burden on the health system," said the federal-state summit at the beginning of December.

Attention was regularly drawn to this in subsequent summits.

In addition, politicians want to prevent larger gatherings of people through the ban on firecrackers in order to keep the risk of infection as minimal as possible even on the New Year.

For example, by resolution of the Prime Minister's Conference, burning old stocks in certain public places and streets is prohibited in many places.
