The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated sharply this week around the world, and the number of daily cases has crossed the symbolic milestone of one million.

France is one of the countries where the incidence rate is panicking the most: one in 100 people has tested positive for Covid-19 over the past week, which on Thursday evening brought the incidence to 1000 over this period, a record.

Contaminations are exploding, carried by Omicron, a variant "at least three times more contagious" than Delta, according to the French Minister of Health Olivier Véran: Friday, 232,200 cases of Covid-19 have been detected in the past 24 hours.

A new record, since there were 206,243 the day before.

This Friday, Public Health France counted 18,715 patients with Covid-19 treated in hospital, while there were 18,321 the day before, and 16,173 last Friday.

In the last 24 hours alone, 1,928 patients have been admitted to French hospital services.

Among these patients, the institution has 3,543 patients in critical care, the care units reserved for the most severe cases, against 3,506 the day before and 3,254 a week earlier.

In 24 hours, 320 patients integrated critical care.

In addition, 189 new deaths linked to Covid-19 were also recorded this Friday, bringing the total of deaths to at least 123,741 in France.
