"Minutes After Midnight": The Families Celebrating the Birth of the First Babies in 2022 | Israel today

Rotem and her husband hugged a baby five minutes after the start of the new civil year • Karin and Kfir arrived at the hospital where they gave birth to their second daughter • Rotem and Elad were evacuated to the emergency room to undergo a special birth procedure


The night of the new civil year was especially exciting for the Israeli families who hugged the first babies in 2022. 

At Kaplan Medical Center, the first baby at Kaplan Medical Center for the new civil year was born just 5 minutes after midnight.

Rotem Wildorf, 26, from Gedera, arrived on Friday morning with her husband at the Kaplan Medical Center of the Clalit Group after she began to feel contractions.

"My husband hoped the child would be born at 1.1 for the special date," she recounted with a smile, "and indeed the child was waiting for him - exactly five minutes after midnight and he emerged!"

Rotem gave birth to a baby weighing 3,010 kg. "My midwife was amazing and kept pushing me more and more."

Karin and Kfir Madri from Hod Hasharon received the year 2022 with the birth of their daughter at exactly 00:09 in the delivery rooms at the Meir Medical Center of the Clalit Group.

Karin and Kfir had their second birth and the new baby weighed 3.660 kg.

"At the time of the birth, Galit Shimshon, our stunning midwife, offered me a mirror so I could see the birth, although I was a little apprehensive, but I flowed with her and that was the best thing I could ask for," Karin said.

"I encourage everyone to see this magic happen and I myself still do not believe. I thank the whole team - you do not have to. And wish us all a year of health and happiness as a sign of a new life."

The first newborn of the year at Rambam Hospital, was born at a good time to the Alma family, to the parents Iris and Yossi, residents of Kiryat Motzkin. The baby was born at 04:29, in a spontaneous birth and weighing 3,020 kilograms. The midwife Batsheva Krichli and Dr. Roy Goldfreund.

At the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, they celebrated the birth of their first baby during a particularly tumultuous birth.

Elad and Rotem Tanami from Hadera, arrived at the maternity ward after Rotem experienced significant contractions.

Rotem was quickly transferred to her delivery room.

In connection with the monitor, the midwifery team, Tiki Chen and Asma Kabha, saw a significant slowdown in fetal heart rate.

Following this, Dr. Sivan Barda and Dr. Omar Moore were immediately called to the scene, who decided to perform an immediate birth in a vacuum procedure.

Upon being rescued from the womb, those present in the delivery room were shocked to discover that there was indeed a knot in the umbilical cord, and that the rapid staff actions were the right thing to do.

Rotem's husband, Elad, thanked the team that gave birth to his son weighing 3.7 kilograms.
