(ANSA) - ROME, 01 JAN - India has registered 22,775 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours: the Ministry of Health announced today, according to the Guardian.
The new data indicates that densely populated metropolises - such as the capital New Delhi, the financial center of Mumbai and Kolkata - are seeing some of the strongest increases in infection.
In the state of West Bengal (east), infections have risen to 3,450 in the last 24 hours (including 16 of the Micron range) with at least 1,950 cases reported in Kolkata, the capital.
To try to contain the spread of the virus, the municipal body of Kolkata has imposed a lockdown in 17 residential micro-areas where more than five cases of contagion have been detected.
