France has shifted into the new year while Omicron is now largely in the majority, leading to contamination records.
The Delta variant nevertheless continues to infect new patients.
In his wishes to the nation, French President Emmanuel Macron warned that "the coming weeks will be difficult" but that there were "real reasons for hope" and that "2022 may be the year of release of the epidemic ”.
Contaminations remain at a very high level.
Public Health France has identified 219,126 in the last 24 hours.
Yesterday, the agency counted 23,200. For the fourth consecutive day, they exceeded 200,000.

The incidence rate (number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the past week) is approaching 1,500. It has more than doubled in one week and it is not over, given the evolution of daily cases.
For symptomatic cases, it is significantly lower in people who have been vaccinated, and especially in those who have received a booster dose.
More than 123,850 dead since the start of the pandemic
This Saturday, Public Health France counted 18,811 patients with Covid-19 treated in hospital, while there were 18,715 the day before, and 16,162 on Christmas day. In the past 24 hours, 1,102 patients have been admitted to French hospital services. Among these patients, the institution has 3,560 patients in critical care, the care units reserved for the most severe cases, against 3,543 the day before and 3,282 a week earlier. In 24 hours, 197 patients entered critical care. In addition, 111 new deaths linked to Covid-19 were also recorded this Saturday, bringing the total of deaths to at least 123,851 in France.
According to the Directorate General of Health, 24,326,019 people have received a booster dose in France to date.
Since the start of the vaccination campaign, 52,917,231 people have received at least one injection, or 78.5% of the total population.
51,758,964 people now have a complete vaccination schedule, or 76.8% of the total population. 19,300 injections have been given in the last 24 hours.
It's not much: New Years Eve must have something to do with it.
