(ANSA-AFP) - BAGHDAD, 01 JAN - Thousands of supporters of the former pro-Iranian Iraqi paramilitaries of Hashd al-Chaabi descended on the streets of Baghdad to celebrate the second anniversary of the assassination of the Iranian general QassemSoleimani in a US drone attack.
On the night of January 3, 2020, on the orders of then President Donald Trump, a drone hit the vehicle in which Solimani and Lieutenant Abu Mehdi al-Mouhandis, number two of Hachd al-Chaabi were traveling.
"No to America!", Some protesters shouted today, showing portraits of Soleimani and Mouhandis.
"US Terrorism Must End," read a sign.
Faleh al-Fayyad, a senior Hashd official, hailed the memory of the two "martyrs" in a speech to the crowd calling the murder "a crime against Iraqi sovereignty".
