In the explosion of a gas fireplace in Melle, Lower Saxony, in the Osnabrück district, ten people were injured, some of them life-threateningly.
The chimney in a pool house probably exploded at the moment when a 28-year-old wanted to turn off the device, as the Osnabrück police announced.
As a result, the interior of the pool house caught fire.
The 28-year-old suffered life-threatening burns and was brought to a special clinic by helicopter.
The other nine present, all of a similar age, were also injured.
The police put the damage to the pool house at at least 50,000 euros.
The adjoining house remained largely undamaged.
The cause of the explosion is now being determined.
