In Thuringia, a 20-year-old was fatally injured in a fireworks explosion.
The young man ignited the firecrackers, which then exploded, said a police spokesman on Saturday evening on request.
The incident occurred on New Year's Eve in a place in the Saale-Holzland district.
The police initially did not report the fatal explosion in order to first inform relatives about the death of the 20-year-old.

How it came to the fatal accident is still being determined, said the police spokesman.
It is being investigated whether the fireworks are possibly a self-made or an import.
The investigation would be led by the criminal police.
In Hennef near Bonn, too, a 37-year-old man was killed in the explosion of a self-made gun on New Year's Eve.
A 39-year-old was seriously injured.
According to the police, the incident took place at a private party attended by ten people.
