The most worthwhile promotions in fashion

Instead of leading to another production that only pollutes the world, choose the ecological and green way.

This is not a compromise - it is a consumer act done out of awareness and choice of style.

In addition, there is also a social plus in the whole business, so in general everyone benefits.

Here are some important facts to keep in mind: The

fashion industry is one of the most exploitative industries in the world.

It employs cheap labor in underprivileged countries under deplorable conditions and meager wages, with more than 20% of them children.

Workers are forced to work long shifts of more than 15 hours, and are exposed to severe abuse.

Moreover, it is one of the most polluting industries in the world.

It is responsible for more than 1.2 billion tons of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere, it also consumes many areas due to the waste it creates, while in the last 50 years there has been an 800% increase in the amount of textile waste buried.

And here's another disturbing statistic: the fashion industry wastes about 20% of the world's fresh water.

The main causes of waste: dyeing the fabrics and growing cotton.

Or Ben Ami, an entrepreneur who conducts second-hand tours and an Instagram user in the field, explains that "one T-shirt is a waste of 2,400 liters of water, which is the amount a person drinks for two and a half years, and that is what you save if you choose to buy a second-hand shirt. "If you make jeans, you already spend 5,700 liters on one pair of jeans. It's crazy and you can save it all."

Ben Ami conducts second-hand tours and has an Instagram account that deals entirely with second-hand fashion and its accessibility to the general public.

Like many ideas, this thought also began during the closure of the corona and later embroidered skin and tendons.

Starting with outfits in history, he came for second-hand shopping tours, lectures on eco-fashion and a page that includes countless information and offers for stores all over the country.

"I started uploading second-hand outfits from my closet to my Instagram to raise awareness for all of this," says Ben Ami.

"I got a lot of messages from people who did not believe they were second hand clothes, and they asked me where I find all the items. From that point on I started to review second hand stores in the country. I would go to all kinds of stores and show all kinds of cool details from there. To give people a good first-hand experience. "

"Our world is drowning in clothes, and it has a price"

Ben Ami, like many second-hand buyers, does not want to be captive to the dictates that the fast fashion industry sets for us, she wants to determine her own style.

In addition, out of awareness of the great destruction that the fashion industry is causing, it wants to prevent them as much as possible, and therefore spreads the gospel to others as well.

The main cause of the enormous dimensions of destruction is the rapid turnover of our clothes alongside mass production.

Over the years, our fashion has become faster, and supposedly also cheaper, but everything has a price, and in this case it is an environmental price.

"Garment has meaning and has a price (not just monetary). There is a social price that is actually the exploitation of cheap labor. It does not make sense for a shirt to cost 30 shekels. "Money? Someone pays the price, and it comes at the expense of the weakened workers in these industries," Ben-Ami explains.

The fashion companies produce more than 50 collections a year so that every week we arrive at the mall and see something a little different, and so that we are tempted to purchase what we do not have yet.

"We all have clothes we don't need anymore, our world is drowning in clothes. Even if we stop making clothes now, we will have clothes left for another 50 years," she says.

Another option, with much more style

Loving fashion is not a crime, and one can be aware of all and make our choices in a more accurate way.

The key is in choosing a consumption that is active and not passive.

Choose exactly where we buy from, and ask ourselves if we really need it.

Aside from the ecological reasons for consuming second hand, there is also a reason that pertains to all the fashion benefits in it.

Just this week, the "Story" chain opened a second-hand department in a store in Dizengoff in Tel Aviv, and in recent years more and more second-hand stores are opening in many places in the country.

The supply is only growing, also due to the massive production, and there are lots of clothes coming to these stores in new condition and even with a ticket.

The whole point is not to act on our default and just go into one of the big networks, but to explore a bit and check out the options that are just growing.

"Does it stink?"

Shattering myths

In preparation for the article, we asked people what they thought of second-hand clothing, and the overwhelming majority admitted that they had a problem with the fact that someone had worn the garment before.

"People do not understand that it is not stale, dirty and disgusting as it was 30 years ago. It used to be said that it is like this, today that is really not the case," states Ben Ami.

"Who said new is clean? No one washes our clothes from the chains, if you look at how they are made and under what conditions, chances are you will not want them at all. Other than production, the garment undergoes an import process, and no one cleans it in the whole process."

Recommendations phase

Second-hand fashion definitely offers an option that is both ecological and full of style, where anyone can put together their look in a way that is just theirs, and that you probably will not see in the chains.

But here's another important point: at the end of the day it's precisely our choices, and in order to really reduce waste, we also need to reduce consumption.

The accuracy of our selections will also allow us a more accurate and unique look, and will also significantly reduce pollution.

Our recommendation: Start going into thrift stores, and explore this world, each store has a slightly different style and character.

The price range is also different and varied.

Check what you really like and you will discover this world, there is a chance that you will completely fall in love with it.

North to South: Several stores are equal

There is a virtual map in collaboration with a tap app that has lots of thrift stores.

The map is based on the wisdom of the masses and anyone can add a store he has found and is not yet there - so that everyone can enjoy.

Other than that, I have therefore made some recommendations.

Story - The Story chain opened a second-hand department called Second Story for the first time this week.

The department is located in the Story Store in Disneygoff Square.

All items sold in the store are collected from customers and undergo a careful selection before being put on hangers.

Unsold items are donated to charities.

Do you have unnecessary items in the house that you have not worn for a long time?

You can bring them to the Tel Aviv branch and make a profit. Some of the clothes you bring will go on sale in the store or on the website. If your garment is sold, you can receive cash or a credit for the purchase in the store.
