According to a report on salary expenses in the health system, the salaries of senior specialists have increased by 77% since 2009 • The proportion of doctors in hospitals has increased in recent years by 29% • Doctors in the periphery perform more shifts compared to their counterparts in the center

The salaries of senior specialist doctors have risen by 77% since 2009, almost double the increase in the salaries of interns, according to a report on salary expenses in the health system.

Among doctors, there are also the highest salary gaps, with the average salary being NIS 35,000, while the average salary per job in the top decile is NIS 78,756.

A doctor who also performs surgeries as part of shortening appointments (in the afternoon) earns another NIS 12,000 a month.

Also, hospital physicians in the periphery perform an average of 5.6 shifts per month, compared to 4.8 shifts of physicians in the center.

The authors of the report stated that "in formulating the outline for shortening the shifts, it must be ensured that the gaps between the center and the periphery are reduced." ENT (4.9) and Ophthalmologists (4.2).

The report also shows that there are significant wage gaps between women and men in the health funds. The average wage of women working in the health system is 42% lower than men: the average wage for women is NIS 17,816 gross full-time compared to 30,577 for men.

In hospitals, men's wages are 21% higher than women's wages.

A major part of the gap is due to a difference of about 61% in the average earnings for additional work.

Another major factor in the gender pay gap is variance in the choice of occupation, with occupations where the wage is relatively high having a higher proportion of men, among others in the rank of doctors and engineers.

Also, part of the gap is due to lower representation of women in senior positions.

The gender pay gap stands at 11% and is higher (29%) among employees on personal contracts.

The report also showed that the proportion of doctors in hospitals and health funds has increased by 29% in recent years, a much faster rate than the population growth rate (16%), in favor of improving and expanding public health services.

Wage commissioner Kobi Bar-Natan said: "The public health system is at the forefront of the war in Corona. We will continue to focus this year on reducing the gaps in the system and adapting the wage structure to the modern labor market, to ensure that the system can continue to absorb and preserve young people."
