Many citizens report longer-than-usual waiting times at various test sites • Police report traffic congestion near test sites scattered across the country and call on drivers who do not need to be tested not to approach the area and use navigation apps

Many citizens report in the last hours (Sunday) that there are heavy loads in the test complexes across the country and a longer-than-usual waiting time in the various test complexes.

According to various reports, there are significant loads in a considerable part of the complexes, and these cause traffic jams in areas other than the complexes themselves.

The growing demand for corona tests is occurring as the spread of the omicron variant continues and while the Ministry of Health has reported an increase in the infection coefficient of 1.83.

A statement from the police said that dozens of reports were received regarding heavy traffic loads near the Corona testing complex on Komemiyut Street in Bat Yam.

The police said that the public of drivers who do not come for inspections at the complex, are asked to make use of alternative roads and use navigation apps.

At the same time, various complexes were observed in other places throughout the country, including Rehovot, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

Earlier today, a Home Front Command representative referred to the congestion at the test sites and said: "Due to the pressure on the laboratories, the waiting time for PCR test results has increased from about 8 hours to 50-48 hours. This radiates to returnees from abroad and new immigrants."

As you may recall, a senior official in the Ministry of Health estimates that Israel will reach the limit of its ability to perform PCR tests on Corona this week.

He said it would be necessary to change the testing policy so that even in some cases (e.g. people without symptoms or those who are not elderly or chronically ill) would have to give up corona testing.
